Ancient City and Living History---On the Yangzhou road for three miles in the breeze, every pearl-screen is open. But there is no one like her. (by Du Mu in Tang Dynasty)
In 486 BC, Fuchai, king of the Wu State during the Spring and Autumn Period, built Hancheng in Shugang in order to win the power in North China, which is considered as the beginning of establishing Yangzhou city.
Since the establishment of Hancheng, Yangzhou has walked through 2,500 years of history. In the past tens of centuries, Yangzhou suffered numerous wars and grow-ups, and experienced various up and downs during Han Dynasty, Tang Dynasty, Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty.
At that time, Yangzhou boasts countless merchants, leaving the legend that “When studying Yangzhou 's history, one can know China 's history from the past to the present, namely, from the Tang Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty.”
