Jiangdu — a city beside the Yangtze River
Jiangdu is situated in the east of Yangzhou city, where is the convergent point of the Yangtze River, the Huaihe River and the ancient Grand Canal . Jiangdu Hydro Artery, a national level water conservancy scenic spot, Shaobo Lake scenic zone, a national AA level tourist attraction and Jiangdu Modern Horticulture Industrial Park , one of the first group demo agro-tourism spot in China . Serving as the headstream of the eastern line in the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, Jiangdu is crowned as “a land of water conservancy”, “a land of milk and honey ”, and “a land of flowers and trees ”.
In the period between the Qin and Han Dynasties, Jiangdu was known as a “metropolis in the Yangtze and Huan River Area” and “a Dragon Continent” due to the legends of fairies and flying dragons. On its flat terrain with inter-woven networks of rivers and lakes, the climate in Jiangdu is mild, humid and distinctive four seasons. This city is well-known for ornamental flowers and trees, especially the bonsai with delicate workmanship, which was highly praised by Zheng Banqiao, a famous literati in the Qing Dynasty. He wrote an age-old famous poem like this: “Every girl was firstly taught to sing folk songs and people here all grow flowers, equal to planting crops”. Gaoyou – the first post station under heaven
Gaoyou, a noted historical and cultural city, was crowned as “a famous land on the left side of Huaihe River and the first city in Guangling District (the ancient name of Yangzhou )”. Longqiuzhuang Relics represent the pre-history culture of the East Yangtze River and Huai River Areas and demonstrates that more than seven thousand years ago there was glorious civilization within this area. In 223 BC, Emperor Ying Zheng ordered to build a post office here and the name of Gaoyou came into being, with an alternative name of Qinyou (a post station of Qin Dynasty). The mail station of Mengcheng was a key relics unit under the protection at the national level and the only museum concerning of post service across the country. The platform of Wenyou gained its fame because of Qin Shaoyou and the other three. These four well-known literatis in the Song Dynasty often enjoyed fine wine and wrote nice poems together here.
The beautiful and fertile Gaoyoui Lake is rich in fish, crab and other aquatic products, as well as water shield, reed and other water plants. Both Gaoyou Duck and the double-yolk duck egg are well-known all over the world.
Yizheng—a land of rain flower pebble /Yuhua stone
Yizheng is located at the tip of Yangtze River Delta and rich in ecological tourism resources due to many unique hills and scattered lakes.
Yizheng has a demo national agriculture-tourism spot—Dengyue Lake Scenic Area. That area is reputed for its large number of rain flower pebble or Yuhua stone, known as “queen of stones” and its production occupies over two thirds of the whole market across China . Shizhu Mountain , a prehistorical volcano site, is not only characterized by peculiar natural scenery but also valuable in terms of geological research. The Forest Park in the western suburb of Yangzhou , a provincial-level forest park and national AA level tourism area, is a natural oxygen-rich place for people to spend holidays and leisure time there.
Baoying—a land of lotus root
Baoying is located in the watery region of Lixia River . Firstly it was built in the Qin Dynasty with the ancient name Anyi. With the Grand Canal running through the city, it has widely-scattered lakes, ponds and other beautiful sights. It is well-known for “a land of lotus and lotus root”. Due to agriculture-tourism resources, Baoying is listed in the first group demo national ecologic counties. While standing in the Shuisi Lotus Park , one can listen to raindrops falling on the lotus leaves and inhale the fragrance of lotus which may accompany you to sleep. Zhengrun Ecological Park , a demo national agriculture-tourism spot next to Baoying Lake , is an ideal place for holidays and recreation. The Story of Liubao , a famous movie, factually reflects the poetic and picturesque countryside sceneries in Liubao of Baoying. |
